The life extension of the existing road and construction of reinforced concrete infrastructure is a priority for economic prosperity and sustainability. This project will examine the use of fiber reinforced polymers (FRP) for strengthening cutting the slab over the beam of reinforced concrete structures typically used in large bridges or buildings.
The mechanical failures unstrengthened cut, and reinforced concrete structures are complex. An experimental investigation of local innovative behavior was initially conducted using prototype samples. Implications of the results' will be used to investigate the general behavior of T-beams of different depths, with testing and analytical modeling unstrengthened beams and strengthened. The performance of the practice slab on beam structures, and strengthening the impact of interventions to prolong life, will be evaluated.
Scholarships for doctoral studies at Cambridge University Engineering Department, is available for UK / EU students in the January 5, 2012. Applicants must have a first degree in a relevant science or engineering. Knowledge of structural analysis and design and / or mechanics of materials is very convenient. The scholarship includes maintenance of the standard EPSRC rates and covers the university and the University of the rates approved for the UK / EU over a period of 3.5 years.
The research is funded by the EPSRC supported by Parsons Brinckerhoff, Tony Gee and Partners, Arup, Mouchel, the Directorate General of Highways, Ltd concrete repairs and concrete society, and carried out in collaboration with the University Bath. The project offers an excellent opportunity to interact with a steering group of influential and reciprocal dialogue of research and visits to the University of Bath.
